Assistant Professor: Spanish

Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Spanish to begin in August, 2009. Duties include teaching Spanish language courses at all levels, coordinating beginning and intermediate Spanish courses, and teaching secondary world language methods. Active participation in service activities at departmental, college, and university levels is expected. The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute, through their scholarship, teaching, service, and experience to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Position requires: PhD in hand by August 1, 2009; native or near-native fluency in Spanish; evidence of teaching excellence and of potential for significant research; dedication to teaching all levels of Spanish language; knowledge of second-language pedagogy and teacher education.

Desirable: Specialization in Second Language Acquisition or Applied Linguistics; experience coordinating multiple sections of a language course; secondary teaching experience and ability to supervise student teachers at the secondary level; knowledge of instructional technologies; interest in developing service learning opportunities; ACTFL OPI certification in Spanish.
