Mitchell Hall (1965) is an extensive teaching, research, and service facility that houses several administrative, faculty, and staff offices of the College of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and Teacher Education. Included are the Dean’s Office, the academic Departments of Exercise and Sport Science and Health Education and Health Promotion, Intercollegiate Athletics, Sports Information, Facilities and Events Management, Recreational Sports, Sports Camps and Clinics, the National Youth Sports Program. Mitchell Hall is the primary site for the La Crosse Exercise and Health Program that includes adult exercise and Phase III cardiac rehabilitation programs. In addition, the building houses the several teaching and research laboratories: Human Performance/Exercise Physiology, Instructional Technology, Anatomy/Physiology, Athletic Training/Sports Medicine, and Motor Behavior/Learning. Facilities include a swimming pool, basketball courts, wrestling room, dance studio, racquetball courts, a 3,800 square foot Strength and Conditioning Center, and several classrooms with state-of-the-art instructional technology. Also located in Mitchell Hall is the Executive Director’s office for the Wisconsin Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. The field house has a 4-lane 200-meter polyurethane track, long and triple jump pit, pole vault boxes, nets for tennis, badminton, volleyball, golf and softball/baseball hitting, a climbing wall, and other adventure education high and low elements. Adjacent outdoor facilities for physical education classes, athletics, and recreational sports include practice fields, 16 tennis courts, soccer fields, and a 9-lane 400-meter polyurethane track surrounding the football field in Veterans Memorial Stadium with a seating capacity of 5,500.
