My Advice to a New Math 175 Student:

A very important element in succeeding in math 175 is keeping up on the homework.  Do not fall behind.  If you are working with the material and there is a concept that you do not understand, go in for help.  If you do not get help on the concept it will come back in the future and hurt you.  You can get help from your teacher, or try the tutoring room.  The tutors there are usually a big help.  Sometimes the assigned problems are not enough.  Try extra problems and do as many problems as you can.  It will help you become familiar with various types of problems, and the extra practice never hurts.  Read over the section that you will be studying in class before you get to class.  It may not make sense complete when you read it, but at least you will be familiar with the material and concepts in the section.

Do not start studying the night before a quiz or exam.  If you spend enough time on the material on a daily basis you will not spend your Wednesday's working only on calc.  Try the problems out of the chapter review, usually the problems are mixed up.  This allows you to recognize different kinds of problems.

       Sincerely,
