Get to know this site. The links listed under the "Useful Links" tab in the left column on this page will take you to different web sites. Each site has a different look and intent, but all of them contain useful information. You will want to visit many of these sites as we advance into Calculus.

Read the advice from former Math 207 students. The advice can be found here. Read all of them that are from past students that have the same major as you and a couple that have a different major.

Work through the Algebra Review that is linked here. This is a twelve page pdf document that contains a quick but through review of some of the key topics that we will need throughout the study of calculus. This review includes questions (and answers). Create a self-test to determine your strengths and weaknesses and look for further information relating to your weaknesses.

There is also a self-test available here. This one includes more trigonometry.

If you have ever wondered how algebra (arithmetic, exponents, equations and series) relates to the study of calculus (functions, limits, derivatives, and integrals), or if you simply need a tutorial relating to these topics, visit the Math Refresher Map (listed in the "Algebra Help" page under the "Useful Links" tab). Click on the Algebra terms listed in the map for a brief tutorial, and click on the Calculus terms to glance at some topics that will come up in the course this semester.

When you have looked over the site and have read the advice, and after you have read through the algebra review, send your professor an email with the subject line `Your Name, Math 207, Week 1'. In the body of the email, tell your professor:

  1. which of the sites (found in the "Useful Links" tab to the left) appear to be the most useful
  2. which of the student advice pages (list the name of the person who wrote it) you found most useful, helpful, or interesting
  3. and which topics in the algebra review that you need to brush up on (if any)

If your email program is configured properly, you can click on the name of your instructor (below) to send the email.
