Helen has worked extensively with K-12 teachers for the past twenty years. She has been project director of numerous workshops for elementary, middle and high school teachers with the support of ESEA and UW System grants and was an evaluator for the IDEAS project to select mathematics lessons that support the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards. She has led several projects that have developed web-based educational materials for pre-college teachers. One project formed a partnership with area teachers to write web-based materials on data analysis, which were used in an on-line statistics course for teachers. A second project developed a unique graduate program at UW-La Crosse in which practicing teachers earn a graduate certificate in Middle School Mathematics. This is a 10-credit program, consisting of summer courses and academic year on-line courses, emphasizing the Wisconsin Mathematics Assessment Framework and the Praxis middle school mathematics content.
