Mathematics Education Major and Minor (Early Adolescence – Adolescence)
As part of the School of Education’s Secondary Teacher Education Preparation (STEP) Program, the Mathematics Education Major and Minor at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse uniquely prepares students to be middle and high school teachers. Through coursework and integrated field experiences, Mathematics Education majors and minors focus on the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the disciplines, as well as instructional tools to make these aspects of the subject matter meaningful for all learners.
Students must apply to the School of Education for admission into the STEP Program during their sophomore year after completion of pre-application requirements. Once admitted to the program, students will further complete a sequence of professional education courses and field-based experiences that emphasize integrated and coordinated coursework. Upon completion of the Mathematics Education Major or Minor and professional education coursework students will be eligible for Wisconsin licensure at the Early Adolescence – Adolescence level (grades 6-12).
