| I had a great time with the FastTrack program. I am so happy to be in Math 150 so now I can move ahead with my schoolwork! The online portion was super easy to understand (and I am not the best with computers)! Now I am on pace to graduate with the class of 2016! ~FastTrack student 2012 | I loved that I was able to move in early and get to know campus before my peers. I enjoyed the activities and speakers who helped us become familiar and comfortable with options and opportunities at UW-La Crosse. Participating in FastTrack was the best decision I could have made to help me prepare for college. ~FastTrack student 2012 |
FastTrack first launched as a summer program in 2012. During that summer, 38 students participated in the online and face-to-face program. At the end of the summer, students retook the UW System Regional Placement Exam. Thirty-seven of thirty-eight students passed out of developmental mathematics into College Algebra or beyond!
What is FastTrack?
FastTrack is a hybrid summer mathematics enhancement program where incoming freshmen develop their mathematical skills online for six weeks before meeting on campus for a one-week campus stay. The goal of this program is for students placed into MTH 050 or 051 to increase their skills in order to place into a higher mathematics class in the Fall of their freshman year that will be required for their academic program.
Students must APPLY and BE ACCEPTED into this program in order to participate. Betwen 35-40 will be admitted into the FastTrack cohort.
The fee for the program is $200. This fee includes course materials, instruction, housing, meals, and community activities. Upon successful completion of FastTrack, students could save more than $670, the minimum cost of taking MTH 050 or 051 during the school year.
Why FastTrack?
FastTrack is designed to give incoming freshmen the opportunity to move ahead in their required mathematics coursework, providing them with a faster time to completion of their mathematics sequence. It is also designed to orient students to campus life, student services, and the La Crosse community. Students enrolled in the FastTrack program will also be able to move into their residence hall one week prior to the start of the Fall semester.
How do I apply?
Online applications will be accepted through Thursday, June 27 at noon. Click here to complete the online application!
When will I know if I am accepted?
As only a cohort of 35-40 students will be selected, those students who best fit the intent of FastTrack will be contacted via email by July 5.
What is the Summer 2013 timeline?
Students must register before the start date of Monday, July 15. Selected participants will be given a link to register for the course. Course modules will be opened to students starting July 15. The weekly commitment to the FastTrack program will be approximately 4-6 hours of online study and communication. Most of the online study can be done independently at the student's convenience. Each week, one hour will be spent online during a live tutoring session. Multiple times are offered throughout the week to accommodate student work schedules.
Students will move into their assigned residence hall on Sunday, August 25 and will participate in instructional and campus activities throughout the week. Click here to see the week of activities from FastTrack Summer 2012.
