My Advice to a New Math 175 Student:
One thing that might be helpful to know the first week of class is that
even though this is a 100 level math class it is going to require a lot
of work.
The best advice i can offer is to keep trying even if you think you
can't improve in the class. Eventually, if you keep up on the work,
you
will understand. Sometimes it might take half of the semester, as it
did in my case, but things will "click". One thing that seems to have
helped for me is looking over the reading in a section before it is
covered in class. Attempting problems will help too, but even just
reading the material ahead of time helps. Then, rather than watching
the teacher write stuff on the board that is completely over your head,
you already have an idea of what's going on. This builds confidence on
the subject matter as well which, for me, seems to play an important
part as to whether or not i do well on an exam. Lastly, even though
you've probably heard this already, do the homework. The best way to
study is to practice the problems.
Sincerely,
Jen, Undecided Major
