My Advice to a New Math 175 Student:
I found applied calculus to be a lot more challenging than I thought it would
be. However, its not impossible, it just requires a decent amount of time and
effort. Anyone taking Math 175 should be confident with their algebra skills
before they enter the class. During class time I suggest taking as many notes
as possible because it moves very fast and then reading over the notes and working
through the problems talked about in class on your own. If you get behind during
the lecture, its usually hard to catch up and understand what is going on.
Another good stradegy is to find someone in your class to study with for quizzes
and tests. A lot of times you may understand things better from a student's
point of view. Also take advantage of the review sessions and tutors, they really
help a lot. Even if you understand the material, the review sessions will help
you know what to expect on upcoming exams or quizzes.
Always try the practice problems before class, come to class everyday, study
hard and you will pass.
