My Advice to a New Math 175 Student:
MTH 175 is not an easy class. The empasis on algebra is extremely
important. You are told in the first weeks how important it really is, althought
it is not stressed enough. If you are not skilled and knowledgable in algebra,
you will not succeed in this class. Also it is important to keep up with the
assignments. If you leave them go for too long, you will be lost for weeks. MTH
175 constantly is building off itself, and if you do not understand something
you need to learn how to do it before you learn something else. Also the tuesday
night review sessions are very helpful. When I did not understand something,
those sessions helped me to learn a way to comprehend what was given to me. One
of the best suggestions I can give to succeed in this class would be to make
sure to study outside of class. In the beginning I did not do this as much as
I should have, which left me lost most of the year. However towards the end I
began to seek help from outside resources, and now understand the material much
better. So if there is one suggestion I could give, it would be to study outside
of the classroom, and to seek extra help when needed.
Sincerely,
Kimberlee, Marketing Major
