Coordinator, Academic Success Institute (ASI); Latin American Student Organization Advisor; Pre-advising and Academic Development Counseling; Peer Tutoring Program; Retention Support Programs

Connie Vanderhyden has been working for the Office of Multicultural Student Services at UWL since 2001. For four years she worked as the coordinator of two pre-college academic year programs, the summer reading program and she served on the staff of the Mississippi Summer Adventure Camp. Beginning with the summer of 2006, Connie has been the director of the Academic Success Institute, a bridge program between high school and college for a select group of multicultural students. In addition she is the advisor for LASO, the Latin American/Latino Student Organization on campus. Previous to working at UWL, Connie was the Spanish teacher for 16 years at Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School in Viroqua, Wisconsin, and for four years at the Youth Initiative High School, also in Viroqua. She has a B.A. from Lawrence University and is currently working on her Masters in Education-Professional Development degree at UWL.

Connie also serves as the volunteer coordinator for a human rights accompaniment project in Guatemala. 
Connie’s role as director of the Academic Success Institute is to teach, mentor and support the ASI students, the LASO students, and other students seeking services at OMSS. She is very interested in promoting diversity on the UWL campus and strives to inform, encourage and assist her students to be successful in their college careers.
