Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Native American Academic Advisor; Multicultural Programs; Pre-advising and Academic Development Counseling; Liaison with Multicultural Communities; Native American Student Association Advisor; The Progressives Advisor; Financial Aid Recruitment/Retention Specialist
Guy began his work in the Office of Multicultural Students services in 1997. His previous work experience included working as the Newman Campus Minister at UWL for 5 years, an Environmental Organizer for Clean Water Action Alliance for 6 years, the founder and Director of the Rural Education and Resource Centers in MN (4 years) and working as a Marriage and Family Therapist for 6 years. He also started and directed “Bluffland Conservators and Guardians” a local corporation dedicated towards advocacy on behalf of individuals’ personal, health, and economic rights. In short, Guy enjoys working with people who are interested in creating change, whether it is personal, in the community, or global community.
As a Financial Aid and Academic Retention Specialist, he is ready to assist students in discovering and acting on their own behalf to find the academic, emotional and financial resources necessary to graduate. He looks beyond commonly known financial aid and personal resources to maximize student’s ability to succeed in higher education. Guy also serves as the Native American Advisor at UWL and works closely with the OMSS Precollege Summer Programs. He has worked, attended, or directed summer camps for more than 35 years.
Guy’s background includes a Masters of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from UW Stout, two years of graduate work in Theology in Jerusalem and at St. John’s University and has completed certification programs in Community Organizing (Midwest Academy, Chicago), the North American Outdoor Leadership School, and arbitration and mediation skills through the American Arbitration Association. His interests include Environmental Justice, Community Organizing, Gardening, family, and hospitality.
