Financial Aid, Scholarship and Career Information
We
make every effort to help students finance their investment in the future by
keeping our costs as low as possible and by helping them find financial aid.
Several scholarships and incentive grants are specifically embarked for
underrepresented students. These programs, are coordinated through the UW-L
Multicultural Student Services Office and the Financial Aids Office, include:
Counselor's
Choice Scholarship
Qualifications
for the three $1,000 awards to new freshmen are Wisconsin residency, in the top
30 percent graduating class rank or composite score of 23 on the ACT,
involvement in one or more extra-curricular activities in high school,
maintenance of good academic standing the first semester at UW-L, and active
membership in at least one campus-sponsored activity during a student's freshman
year at UW-L.
Non-Resident Fee Waiver
Students who
live outside Wisconsin may be eligible for this scholarship which covers
non-resident fees and is renewable for four years.
Advanced Opportunity Program Grants for Graduate Students
Grants are
intended for Black, Hispanic American, Native American, statutorily-designated
Southeast Asian and disadvantaged students. Both Wisconsin residents and
non-residents are eligible.
Lawton Undergraduate Minority Retention Grants
These grants
are for students who are sophomores, juniors, or seniors. Students should be
able to demonstrate financial need, be in good academic standing, and complete
at least six credits per term.
The
aforementioned programs are just some of the many available to students. In
addition, various scholarships and grants based on ethnicity are available, such
as the American Indian Grants. Information about regional and national
scholarships is located in the Multicultural Student Center. Other funding
sources are the UW-La Crosse Foundation which offers a variety of general
scholarships, and the UW-La Crosse Financial Aid Office which provides financial
aid in the form of low-interest loans, College Work Study and Student Help
employment.
