Realizing Resiliency for Students of Color

Ronald T. Ferguson, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Luther College, will present on various factors contributing to the success and well-being of students of color.  Dr. Ferguson will also provide insights into some of the challenges and opportunities in the realization of resilience, and the role of administrators, faculty and staff in this process. Ultimately, this discussion will go beyond the statistics and demographics surrounding student success and look to proactive, positive strategies to empower communities of color.

UW-L Partners in Movement

This experiential meeting of the minds, shaped by principles of anti-racism, is designed for students who acknowledge systems of white supremacy and racial oppression, and desire to further explore their personal and collective responsibility within a racialized society. Our conversations will be informed by 4 main components (awareness, connection, responsibility and solidarity) through the exploration of concepts such as systemic racism, white savior complex, white fragility, and anti-racist action. Participants will exercise compassionate listening, practice empathy and engage in self-reflection in order to move towards healing and racial justice.
