Over Consumption -- Global -- Page 2

These Examples are from far away places, so most people will not pay attention to them. So, I will now explain what happens locally. Most Americans are caught up in a life where to be happy they feel that they need to buy things. This leads people not to making a living, but making a dieing. More time is spent working that enjoying life and for what. To buy useless junk that we do not need. Most of these products are packaged in tons of plastic and other material that is bad for the environment. Landfills leak and spill their wastes into the ground water we drink. Genetically engineered crops that we buy at the store contain cancer-causing substances and kill topsoil. Americans must realize that this capitalistic way of life is unsustainable and must be changed.

Things you can do

I urge people to find a way to life more sustainable.

  • When you leave a room turn the lights off so that Exxon energy will not have to build a new power plant in the food plain of the Mississippi river in Red Wing Minnesota.
  • Reuse containers and Recycle paper and cans so they do not get turned into greenhouse gasses and blasted into the sky.
  • Do not drive a SUV that gets 13 miles to the gallon, but a 4 cylinder car that gets 40, or your killing more Uwa people and putting more gasses into the sky.
  • Do not get caught in the American consumerism trap of materialism, because it is degrading towards the environment.

Remember, you are involved in a world of inter-connectiveness and your actions directly affect someone else even though you cannot see it.
