Over Consumption -- Local -- Page 3

We could on forever and talk about the problems that come with this oversized business. The best idea is let you look for yourself. The websites used for this site were:

How does this tie into over-consumption? Wal-Mart is filling societies needs, or more what the society thinks it needs. Most purchases from Wal-Mart are impulsive and often end up in landfills. It ties in to the fact that even though America is a wealthy nation, we are the least satisfied with life and what we already have. We need to break this cycle, and pull away from what our society says we need to make decisions on our own. In doing so, when we have full control of ourselves, we can find happiness. The fact that Wal-Mart is number one over all other corporations shows that we have a growing need of things, but in the future, do it differently. Shop locally in your downtown district, or at your local grocer. Many people know what it means to have Wal-Mart come in and destroy your town and local economy, put a stop to it. When you shop locally, money is circulated through your town, not taken out of it, to support a large corporation.

Now that you have seen our argument on over consumption here are some things you can do to help the cause:

  1. Drive less, bike more
  2. Live closer to where you work or go to school
  3. In buying a car, buy high mileage
  4. Use public transportation
  5. Eat less meat
  6. Buy organic and local foods
  7. Buy used, reusable, recyclable, renewable and energy efficient
  8. Avoid shopping at places that use sweatshops
  9. Avoid products that do testing on animals
