Finding  Education Articles

Where are education periodicals found?

Murphy Library subscribes to periodicals in paper form, in microfilm, and online. To see which titles Murphy Library subscribes to in paper or microfilm (and a few online subscriptions--bud does not include article databases), consult the Education Periodicals list.

If you know the name of an education journal or magazine and you want to know if it is available in any of the library's full text databases (or in paper/microfilm) enter the name of the periodical in the Periodicals Holdings List.

How do I search for a specific topic in education periodicals?

  1. Start at Murphy Library's Educational Resources Subject Page. At that page, the best place to start is Murphy Library's version of  ERIC.

  2. For less thorough research that includes more full text, use some of the databases found at the Most Popular Databases page.

  3. Make sure you use the Step-by-Step Research Guide to help steer your search.

How do I find the actual text of the article?

  1. When searching a databases that includes full text, look for a link to full text. In most databases, if the full text is available, the link is usually very obvious.

  2. In ERIC, (using the UW-L EBSCOhost interface only) look for the phrase [Linked Full Text]Check linked full text sources which will lead you to the full text in another database.

  3. In ERIC, (using the UW-L EBSCOhost interface only) you can find the full text of many ERIC Documents. Look for the phrase Full text from EDRS .

What if the article I want is not available full text online?

  1. Make sure you thoroughly search the Periodicals Holdings List. This may lead you to the full text of the periodical in one of the many full text databases at Murphy Library. Don't forget you can browse this list, which helps eliminate human error in searching.

  2. Use Interlibrary Loan at your local library. They will often get articles from other libraries at no cost to you.

  3. Use Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) at Murphy Library if you can pick up the articles or books at Murphy Library.

  4. Use Murphy Library Delivery Services  if you meet the requirements for this service.
