Government Documents Collection
Federal Government Documents
Some 200,000 items (130,000 titles) are held, most obtained through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). Materials include books, periodicals, maps, CDs/DVDs and other formats, and also include reproductions on microfiche or microfilm. U.S. government documents are located in open stacks in the basement, shelved by SuDoc call numbers. They are listed in the Library Catalog, and they may be checked out.
Subject areas emphasized: Business, Education, Health, Physical Education and Recreation (mirroring the subject strengths of UW-L). Geographic areas emphasized: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa
The modern FDLP collection increasingly consists of links to selected government resources published on the web. Over 45,000 government electronic resources may be found and accessed through the Library Catalog.
The Map Room integrates materials collected by the Geography and Earth Science Department over many years with materials received at UW-L through the FDLP from 1982-2008. Over 40,000 topographic maps are held, along with planimetric maps, geologic maps, image maps, and geologic and topographic atlases. Map Room FDLP maps received since 2004 are listed in the Library Catalog. Map room materials may be checked out.
Wisconsin Government Documents
Some 16,000 items (8,000 titles) are held, most obtained through the Wisconsin Document Depository Program (WDDP). Wisconsin government documents are located in open stacks in the basement, shelved by WiDoc call numbers. They are listed in the Library Catalog, and they may be checked out.
The new Wisconsin Digital Archives program of the WDDP catalogs and digitally preserves Wisconsin government Documents. Over 700 of these electronic resources may be found and accessed through the Library Catalog.
United Nations Documents
About 400 items (about 55 titles) are held in this very modest-sized collection. United Nations documents are located in open stacks in the basement, shelved by Library of Congress call numbers. They are listed in the Library Catalog, and they may be checked out.
