Resources for Graduate Students

Research Resources

The following resources point to essential and advanced research tools that graduate students are likely to use:

Subject Resources Pages. Essential databases arranged by campus major.

Finding Dissertations and Theses. A guide to resources at UW-L and beyond.

Dissertations Abstracts. Direct connection to the searchable dissertations & theses database.

Current Awareness Services. A guide to databases that automatically run searches for you, email tables of contents to you, or provide similar services.

Graduate Study Carrel Application (PDF file). Private study carrels are available in the lower level of Murphy Library for graduate students working on theses, seminar papers, and other research projects. Carrels are assigned on a semester by semester basis. Carrel assignments are restricted to graduate students the first  weeks of Fall and Spring term. Thereafter, graduate or undergraduate students will be assigned in the order of application date. Application forms are available online.

Submitting Your Masters Thesis Electronically to the LibraryOnce your thesis (or project report*) is accepted, you have a signed signature page and you have received the congratulatory e-mail from the Graduate Studies Office you should create a single PDF file of your thesis including the signature page.  Contact ITS Support at 785-8774 if you need help creating the file.  At this time a copyright release form must also be completed by the student and submitted to Murphy Library (LibraryThesis@uwlax.edu). This release form allows an electronic copy of the thesis to be posted at Minds@UW (and the OregonPDF in Health & Performance as appropriate).

Graduate students often live off campus and conduct research from a distance. In addition to specialized resources for individual programs, the following resources are available other off-campus library users and students enrolled in distance-based courses:

Login Information. Detailed instructions about usernames and passwords necessary for off-campus access to Murphy Library databases.

Getting Started. A template for research at a distance.
