MEMORANDUM

TO: New Student Assistants

FROM: Anita Evans, Library Director

I would like to welcome you to our staff at Murphy Library Resource Center. As a part-time employee, you are an important part of our accomplishing our mission here at the University.

As library personnel, we are in an information service business and provide a large number of services for the faculty, students, and staff. Critical elements of our service are politeness, prompt delivery of materials and/or information, and a helpful attitude.

You will be trained to perform functions related to your job. Once you have acquired the skills for work, you will have some degree of independence to work in your area of responsibility. A supervisor will generally be available to assist you if problems develop. If you need help, be sure to ask.

At the end of your first semester of employment and each spring, you will be evaluated and your work performance will be discussed at that time.

We are happy to have you with us and hope that your work in the library will be a meaningful part of your university experience. We look forward to your working with us to serve our users across campus.
