Band Music at UW-L

Wind Ensemble

A select ensemble of 35-45 of the finest woodwind, brass and percussion students on the UWL campus. The Wind Ensemble performs repertoire of the highest caliber, providing a challenging and rewarding atmosphere for the most dedicated musicians. The Wind Ensemble rehearses and performs throughout the academic year. Membership and placement auditions for this ensemble are held at the beginning of the first semester (September).

Symphonic Band

A concert band of 60-80 students (predominantly non-music majors). The Symphonic Band provides an opportunity for students campus wide to participate in a large ensemble during the Spring semester. The repertoire of the Symphonic Band includes the best of the standard band literature as well as more contemporary works. No audition is required for membership in this ensemble; rehearsals begin at the start of the second semester (January).

"Screaming Eagles" Marching Band

A marching ensemble averaging 100 members, including woodwinds, brass, percussion, color guard and pom pons. The "Screaming Eagles" Marching Band performs at all home football games and for various campus and community events. Combining musicianship and tradition, the "Screaming Eagles" Marching Band presents exciting performances during the fall semester. No entrance audition is required of woodwind, brass, percussion or color guard members of this ensemble. There is an audition for anyone wishing to join the pom pon squad. Rehearsals begin one week prior to the beginning of the first semester (late August).

UW-L "Superband"Pep Band

A spirited pep band of approximately 20 members, including woodwinds, brass and percussion. The "Superband" performs at selected men's and women's home basketball games beginning in December and throughout the Spring semester. There is no audition required for membership in this ensemble. Rehearsals begin at the end of the first semester (November).

Brass, Woodwind, Percussion Ensembles

Ensembles of various combinations ranging from 4 to 25 performers. These groups provide exposure to the rich chamber music repertoire and offer a valuable dimension to the study and enjoyment of music at UWL. The small ensembles are generally instructor/student directed and perform in a wide variety of venues for many different campus and community events throughout the academic year. No auditions are required, as these ensembles are generally formed by students who seek out other students with similar musical interests and goals.
