Security enhancements have been made to the UWL wireless network.
This configuration guide applies to all existing and new UWL
wireless network connections for faculty, staff and students. This
guide assumes your wireless card is installed and working. To use
the UWL wireless network authentication is required. To
authenticate you must have a valid UWL login id and password.
Requirements:
Windows Vista
Your UWL EMAIL LOGIN ID lastname.firs (the first eight characters of your last name followed by a period and the first four characters of your first name (e.g.: winters.bill))
Your UWL EMAIL PASSWORD (for students the default is the last four digits of your student ID, for faculty/staff the default is the last four digits of your SSN number, followed by your month and day of birth, and @UWL e.g. ID/SSN=123456789, BD=Jan 11, 1980, PW=67890111@UWL. If you have previously changed your password, you will use that instead of the default. If the default does not work, please stop in to 103 Wing with a photo ID to have your password reset to the default)
A wireless network card installed and working on your laptop

Step 1: Getting into the Wireless network manager.
From the Windows desktop select Start | Control Panel; double click on the Network and Sharing Center icon.
In the Network and Sharing Center window click on Manage Wireless Networks.
A “Manage wireless networks” window will open.
Click on the Add button

Step 2: A window will open asking if you want to connect to a network.
Select Manually create a network profile

Step 3: Enter the following information.
Network name: enter UWLAN (note: must be all uppercase)
Security type: select WPA2-Enterprise from the drop down menu (note: if WPA2-Enterpries is not a choice on the drop down menu the driver for your wireless card will need to be updated.)
Encryption type: this should be set to AES.
Uncheck “Start this connection automatically”.
Uncheck “Connect even if the network is not broadcasting”
Click the Next button.

Step 4: You’re not done yet. Now you need to change some of the connection properties.
Click on Change connection settings to move to the next step.

Step 5: The “UWLAN Wireless Network properties” will now open.
Check “Connect automatically when this network is in range”.
Uncheck “Connect to a more preferred network if available”.
Uncheck “Connect even if the network is not broadcasting”.
Next click on the “Security” tab.

Step 6: Ensure that the network authentication is correct.
Make sure that the “network authentication method” is set to Protected EAP (PEAP).
Uncheck “Cache user information for subsequent connections to the network.
Click the “Settings …” button.

Step 7: Setting up the Protected EAP Properties.
Uncheck “Validate Server certificate”.
Ensure that the Authentication Method is set to Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2).
Uncheck “Enable Fast Reconnect”.
Uncheck “Enable Quarantine checks”.
Uncheck “Disconnect if server does not present cryptobinding TLV”.
Click the “Configure…” button to open the EAP MSCHAP v2 Properties window.

Step 8:
Uncheck“Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).”
Step 9:
Click the “OK” buttons for the windows “
EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties”, “
Protected EAP Properties”, and “
UWLAN Wireless Network properties”. You can now close any other window that is currently open.

Step 10: Click the balloon that pops up in the lower right corner to enter your login information. (
Note:
It may take up to two minutes for the balloon to pop up, so please be patient.)

Step 11: Your
user name is you 8.4. First eight letters of your last name period (.) then the first four letters of your first name. Your
password is the same as your email password. Enter
EAGLE as the domain.
