John Henry Newman was a noted Catholic theologian and educator of the 19th century. He is also the namesake of Newman Campus Ministry Centers throughout the world. In 2010, he was named "Blessed" by Pope Benedict.

Meet the new pastor

Fr. JamesFr. James Kurzynski hails from rural central Wisconsin, attending the Tomorrow River Schools in Amherst. He studied Applied Music at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point and composition under Dr. Charles Lester Young. He earned a B. A. in Applied Music in 1997. Fr. Kurzynski then attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he studied Group Counseling and worked as a Hall Director until he discerned his call to the priesthood. Fr. Kurzynski left his counseling studies and enrolled at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois where he earned a B. A. in Sacred Theology, a Master of Divinity, and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology. He was ordained in 2003 and is currently the Chaplain of Regis Middle School and High School in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. An accomplished composer, Fr. Kurzynski's music has been arranged for the Regis High School choir , for liturgical use in parishes, and for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ annual meetings.
Fr. James will join the Newman Community later in June. Join the Roncalli Newman Parish in welcoming Fr. James to La Crosse as our new pastor.
