The educational component of the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) provides a minimum of 22.5 hours
of instruction per participant and consists of three parts:  enrichment, alcohol and other drug prevention education, and math/science.  Enrichment classes contain sessions on nutrition, personal health, college, and career counseling, job responsibilities and higher education.  Alcohol and other drug prevention education lessons are implemented by the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program.  Local police officers are present everyday teaching lessons on drug abuse and gang prevention, respect and citizenship, communication and teamwork.  Math/science incorporates activities that apply math and science in fun, learning projects.  Instructors and counselors are actively involved in this interactive, hands-on education program.
