What is NYSP?

The National Youth Sports Program is a comprehensive sports and educational enrichment program for youth ages 10-16.

 

Who Sponsors NYSP?

NYSP is sponsored by the National Youth Sports Corporation (NYSC) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  The La Crosse Police Department and La Crosse County Sheriff's Department have teamed up with the UW-L NYSP and are pleased to continue the G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education And Training) partnership.

 

When does NYSP run?

NYSP is a five week summer program that runs Monday through Friday from 10:45a.m. to 4:15p.m.  2004 tentative dates:  June 14 - July 16.

 

How will the participants benefit?

NYSP offers experiences in a wide variety of sports and educational activities.  Besides sports instruction, the program includes content regarding nutrition, personal health, higher education, job responsibilities, college and career counseling, and math and science activities.  Participants receive a free medical exam which includes a physical, eye and dental exams; a daily USDA-approved hot lunch and snack, free t-shirts, transportation, accident-medical insurance, exposure to positive role models, as well as an opportunity to be part of a college campus environment.

 

Where will the participants be all day?

NYSP participants will be at the Mitchell Hall indoor and outdoor facilities on the UW-L Campus.  All meals will be served at the Whitney Center on campus.
