OCW President’s Welcome

Greetings OCW members!

This is an exciting year for the Organization for Campus Women. Already, a major addition to OCW has occurred: OCW has become affiliated with the Wisconsin Women in Higher Education and Leadership (WWHEL). This affiliation will include some great benefits to OCW members including participation in state-wide conferences, opportunities for chapter stipends, and more connection to other women in higher education throughout the state.

Many great activities will occur this year, including a Coffee Clutch Membership Drive and Networking Opportunity in October, a fundraiser for the OCW scholarship- “cook-IE off” in November, the annual coat, mitten, and hat drive, as well as the Holiday Social in December. Plans for Spring events include a food drive for the UW-L Helping Our Own food pantry, a Spring scholarship fundraiser, and the annual Symposium. Many activities have already been a success such as the monthly book club, Steppin’ Out in Pink in September, and OCW nominations for the YWCA Tribute to Outstanding Women.

We are always looking for more volunteers and input from members. If you have an idea for an event or would like to be more active in OCW, please contact someone on the Steering Committee or myself. We always welcome every member to attend our monthly meetings. We hope to continue growing a network of strong women leaders on this campus.

Since OCW was founded in 1971, that would make this year, 2011, the 40th anniversary of this organization! What an amazing history OCW must have. If anyone has historical information about the founding of OCW, we would like to hear from you. Please contact me as we begin to form a timeline of historical OCW events.
