KINGSTON UNIVERSITY, LONDON
Kingston University, about 25 minutes by train from central London, is London’s top-ranking new university. Approximately 21,000 students attend classes in the regular semesters on the four campuses in and around Kingston upon Thames, a historic part of London. It is the safest borough in London, according to the most recent Urban Crime Rankings report (May 2006). The University benefits from a modern environment, but is also surrounded by beautiful countryside and a rich heritage. Students will be close to Hampton Court, Bushy Park, and Richmond Park, and may also take advantage of the close proximity to London. Excellent transportation facilitates travel to get to Heathrow and Gatwick airports, as well as the Eurostar terminal. The University's supportive environment will help students get the best out of their studies and their time in London.

LONDON
London is one of the most exciting cities in the world. Its cultural diversity means people from all over the world are happy to make it their home. More than 83,000 international students study in London and over 300 languages are spoken.

Well-known sites such as the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the Tower of London and the British Library, are just short journeys away from Kingston University by train. London's galleries and schools of art make the city an artistic center to rival Paris and Rome, and only London can offer such diverse theater venues including the Blue Note, the Royal Opera House, and the Royal Court Theatre. Major international sporting events take place in London at Wimbledon, Lords, and Wembly Stadium. In London, going for a walk can be an adventure. The various neighborhoods, such as Islington, Kensington, and Bloomsbury, all have their own individual character. Markets, shops, parks, restaurants, clubs, and street entertainers are abundant.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM
 Current university students at all levels and of any nationality are welcome to join Kingston’s Summer School program. Courses are three credits, and students can elect to take one or two courses, including the following:

COURSE EQUIVALENCIES
 The course equivalencies spreadsheets have been compiled from past approved Academic Plan forms. They show when the course was last approved and how it transferred back to La Crosse. You may notice that some classes satisfied several UWL options.

This list is not comprehensive nor does it take the place of meeting with your advisor for final approval! They are meant to be a guide of what courses may be appropriate for your studies abroad. 

HOUSING AND MEALS
Summer School students stay in a residence hall, central to Kingston town and the Penrhyn Road campus where classes are held.

Each student will have non-smoking accommodations in a single bedroom with a private shower and toilet, in a suite of rooms with up to 5 other students, sharing a kitchen.  Amenities include on-site laundry facilities and free Internet connection in all rooms. Bed linens (changed weekly), towels (changed twice weekly), kitchen equipment, and cleaning equipment are provided. Bedrooms and kitchen are also cleaned weekly.

Kingston University does not offer a meal plan for the Summer School program, but students will have access to a shared kitchen to prepare meals. There are supermarkets (grocery stores) in Surbiton and Kingston, plus a daily fruit and vegetable market in Kingston. There are also countless places to eat out.

PASSPORTS & VISAS
Before you travel abroad, you will need to obtain a passport, which will serve as proof of your U.S. citizenship. A passport may allow you to gain entry to (and exit from) other countries. Depending on the country to which you're traveling, a visa may be required as well. Entry requirements vary from one country to another. The U.S. State Department issues travel warnings specific to certain countries, and offers tips and publications relevant to travel abroad generally. Well in advance of your departure, you should also familiarize yourself with international travel health issues, and health recommendations specific to your destination.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  • A GPA of 2.75 or better.

 Program takes place from July to August.

PROGRAM FEE
The program fee includes the following:

  • Tuition (one or two courses)
  • Airport pickup
  • University and Administrative Fees
  • Housing in a single residence hall room (meals not included)
  • Orientation
  • Unlimited travel on London Underground, buses, and trains ($300 value)
  • Class Field Trips
  • International Student Identity Card (ISIC)
  • Study Abroad Graduation Sash

Airfare is not included in the program price.
The program fee does not include a meal plan or meal stipend of any kind.

Financial Aid is applicable to program fees.

All program fees subject to change. Valid for undergraduate Wisconsin residents only; out-of-state students pay Minnesota reciprocity or a non-resident surcharge.

ORIENTATION
All students will be required to attend a pre-departure orientation. The orientation will help you prepare for international travel in general, and for the experience of visiting the United Kingdom.
