This 4-week program will be led by UW-L faculty members hosted on the
campus of the National University of Ireland, Galway. Students
participating in the program may enroll in two courses offered by UW-L
faculty. Faculty will be selected to teach based on a balance of courses
in order to attract students from a variety of disciplines. The program
will be open to freshman, so lower level, General Education courses are
encouraged. Teaching faculty will be responsible for proposing
course-related field trips, which must be incorporated into the program
fee as early as possible but no later than January 2009.
Middelburg,
Holland, The Netherlands 2009-10
Semester and Summer
The MCTS program
is designed to provide faculty with an opportunity to teach abroad and
to interact with a variety of colleagues and students from around the
world. The three-and-a-half-week teaching schedule allows faculty to
participate who otherwise could not due to departmental or family
responsibilities. Most of all, it provides faculty with a chance to get
out of their old familiar patterns, to try something new and
challenging, and to recharge their batteries. As courses/curriculum are
determined up to a year in advance, faculty interested in teaching in
Middelburg should contact their university director as soon as possible
for information on how to submit a course for possible inclusion into
the program. Faculty should be as flexible as possible when selecting a
time period as this allows for the greatest chance for selection.
Courses from the social sciences, humanities, fine arts and business are
appropriate as long as the course includes a comparative, trans-Atlantic
approach. In addition, faculty are encouraged to include field trips and
a variety of teaching techniques and styles whenever appropriate. The
deadline for applications is April 1st. The intent of this amount of
lead time is to give potential students information on courses to be
offered so they can more easily participate in the program. In addition
to UWL's application, please complete and submit the
MCTS Faculty
Application.
MCTS will support faculty housing and provide a meal stipend. MCTS does not pay salaries; faculty members are usually on sabbatical or simply away from their institution for the block they are teaching while colleagues cover classes at home or some other arrangements are made. OIE will cover travel expenses to and from Middelburg. For more information regarding faculty responsibilities and course consideration, see the MCTS’ website: http://www.ucmo.edu/mcts/index.cfm?pg=fac_info.htm.
