City University of Hong Kong
CITY UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG
City University is one of eight Hong
Kong higher education institutions funded by the government of the Hong
Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
Established in 1984, City University now has 18,000 full-time and
part-time students offering more than 100 academic programs in a wide
range of disciplines. Some 900 full-time academic staff and 400
full-time research staff are devoted to teaching, basic and applied
research, consultancy and other scholarly activities.
The university offers a wide range of learning opportunities from associate and bachelor’s degrees to postgraduate studies and continuing education. The programs are offered by the Faculties of Business, Science and Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Creative Media, the School of Law, the College of Higher Vocational Studies and the School of Continuing and Professional Education.
An orientation program is tailor-made for exchange students and mainland students during the week before the semester starts. During the orientation, you will get to know your local ‘buddies’, who will help you with enrollment and class registration, show you around the campus and the neighborhood, and accompany you on excursions around Hong Kong.
Hong
Kong Special Administrative Region
In this thriving
East-meets-West metropolis, western life style mingles with ancient
Chinese culture, and old traditions co-exist with the new. The Victoria
Harbour, separating the glass towers of Hong Kong Island and the busy
streets of Kowloon, is one of the worlds’ most spectacular waterways.
Beyond the commercial districts of Kowloon are beautiful islands and
unspoiled beaches along the coast. One of the world’s tallest Buddha
statues is found on Lantau Island, the largest outlying island in Hong
Kong.
Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China, is situated on the south-eastern coast of China and spreads out over 1,100 square kilometers (424 square miles). Hong Kong is a fast-paced cosmopolitan and an exciting city with over six million people. It is a gateway to China and a hub of international transportation, communication and commerce. An international metropolis, the official languages of Hong Kong are Chinese and English. Cantonese is the indigenous and most widely spoken dialect. Use of Putonghua (Mandarin) is growing. All major signage is in English or bilingual. City University is located in Kowloon Tong on the Kowloon peninsula. The University is close to the Kowloon Tong Station, which connects the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) and the Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR).

Chinese Civilisation Centre
The Chinese Civilisation
Centre grew out of a belief that every CityU graduate should have some
understanding of China's cultural heritage. The centre's two courses are
a prescribed part of most associate and bachelor's degree programs. The
courses were introduced as part of the university's move to a credit
unit system. The system is designed to help students broaden their
intellectual horizons.
The first Chinese Civilisation Course was offered as a pilot to 260 students in September 1998. Today the centre accepts some 3,600 students in its semester-long courses, which are delivered through an integrated system of conventional and web-based methods. Videos, online assignments, discussions and tests complement lectures, demonstrations, workshops, tutorials and field trips conducted by staff members, visiting professors and guest lecturers.
Student Development Services Physical
Education Courses
The
mission
of the Student Development Services (SDS) is to enrich students'
educational experience and whole person development at The City
University of Hong Kong. Several non-credit Physical Education

physical fitness, social dance, fencing, trampolining and so on. They
are catered for both beginners and improvers with the aim of introducing
them to new activities, improving their skills and fostering a life-long
participation in sports. Courses normally last for eight weeks with one
contact hour per week.
COURSE EQUIVALENCIES
The
course equivalencies
spreadsheets have been compiled from
past approved Academic Plan forms.
They show when the course was last approved and
how it transferred back to La Crosse. You may notice that
some classes satisfied several UWL options.
