Frankfurt am Main
(University of Applied Sciences)
Fachhochschule Frankfurt am Main (University
of Applied Sciences)
The Fachhochschule Frankfurt am Main is
committed to scientifically based education as well as to a strong real
world approach to teaching and research. It ranks among the
leading institutions of its kind in Germany. Programs in the field
of architecture, computer science, engineering, business and law as well
as health sciences and social work are available. The programs
apply the Bachelor and Master structures according to the Bologna
agreement of 1999, thus contributing to the creation of the European
Higher Education Area. The format of the programs together with
the expertise in student services provide high quality to campus life.
FRANKFURT AM MAIN
Frankfurt is not a average university
town – it’s a lot more. Frankfurt is not a huge city of millions – it’s
a city of 600,000 in small neighborhoods linked together. Frankfurt has
it’s skyline and office buildings that makes it a financial center of
the European Union but it also has parks throughout the city. There is
something for everyone in the cultural and artistic opportunities to
explore. A great advantage for students is the incomparable mass transit
system.
Frankfurt is a city of trade, a financial centre, a transportation hub,
a major European metropolis, but also a city of intellect, of apple
wine, of small-town friendliness, green spaces and 180 nationalities.

Orientation and German
Language Course (required of all
UWL students attending this program)
German
intensive language classes (different levels available) will be
conducted four weeks prior to the semester start.
Information regarding orientation and the pre-sessional intensive German
language course will be included in your acceptance packet from the
Fachhochschule.
COURSE EQUIVALENCIES
The
course equivalencies
spreadsheets have been compiled from
past approved Academic Plan forms.
They show when the course was last approved and
how it transferred back to La Crosse. You may notice that
some classes satisfied several UWL options.
This list is not comprehensive nor does it take the place of meeting with your advisor for final approval! They are meant to be a guide of what courses may be appropriate for your studies abroad.
HOUSING AND
MEALS
Students will be housed in
a single room at one of the Fachhochschule's student halls. Rent ranges
from 170-240 euros per month and includes electricity and heating.
Students will be required to submit the housing deposit and the first
month of rent prior to their arrival. Housing information will be sent
to you with your acceptance packet from the Fachhochschule.
STUDY CHIP
REGISTRATION
There is a student fee to
be paid at enrollment. This fee has to be paid by every student
for registration, insurance and public transportation. At the time
of your enrollment, you will receive a "study chip." This will be
your pass for free use of transport, etc. If you want to use the
study chip at the time of your arrival, you must submit payment prior to
your arrival.
"TEAM-UP"
BUDDY PROGRAM
The Fachhochschule offers
a program of personal support for exchange students. By
participating in this program, UWL students are paired up with a German
student who will take care of you on your arrival (e.g., pick you up at
the airport and bring you to the International Office).
Application and information will be included in your acceptance packet
from the Fachhochschule.
INTERNSHIPS
Internships would be
available to students upon having completed one semester at the
Fachhochschule. Additional details of placement possibilities
would be available at their International Office.
PASSPORTS & VISAS
Before you travel abroad, you will need
to obtain a passport, which will serve as proof of your U.S.
citizenship. A passport may allow you to gain entry to (and exit from)
other countries. Depending on the country to which you're traveling, a
visa may be required as well.
Entry requirements vary from one country to another. The U.S. State
Department issues
travel warnings specific to certain countries, and offers

international travel health issues, and health recommendations
specific to your destination.
