INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SEMINARS
The overall purpose of the International Business Seminars (IBS) program is to allow participants to be exposed to the international business environment and practices outside the United States. The seminars provide insight into the cultural, social, and political environments of each country visited. We feel this is a unique way for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in international business practices while experiencing the excitement of traveling outside the United States.

CHINA
China is one of the most rapidly growing economies in the world and a very popular destination for study abroad culturally and business wise. Economic development has proceeded unevenly, with urban coastal areas, particularly in the Southeast, experiencing more rapid economic development than other areas of the country. China has a mixed economy, with a combination of state-owned and private firms. A number of state-owned firms have undergone partial or full privatization in recent years. The Chinese government has encouraged foreign investment -- in some sectors of the economy and subject to constraints -- since the 1980’s, offering several "special economic zones" in which foreign investors receive preferable tax, tariff, and investment treatment.

In China we will visit Beijing, the political center of the country, Shanghai, the financial center of the country, and Xi’an, the historical center of the country. Seminars to China will include combination of international companies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ericsson Communications, as well as the Bank of China, and world cultural wonders such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Terracotta Army. In all of these places you will find a distinct contrast between thousands of years of history blended with the most modern progress of our world today.

Academic Program
Students participating in this program will earn 3 credits for MKT 499.  This program is PRE-APPROVED by the CBA International Advisory Committee for International Business majors, and fulfills the Out-Of-Country Experience requirement.

A major component of the academic program of this study program will be experiential based learning.  As such, visits to international organizations such as Beijing Consulting Group, General Motors, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Bank of China and others are included.

CULTURAL VISITS AND EXCURSIONS
In addition to a tremendous academic experience and the opportunity to visit many important international organizations in China, this program will also offer students the chance to visit some of the most important cultural sites in the world.  These include:  Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, Tang Dynasty Art Museum, and Xi'an Ancient City Walls.

PASSPORTS & VISAS
Before you travel abroad, you will need to obtain a passport, which will serve as proof of your U.S. citizenship. A passport may allow you to gain entry to (and exit from) other countries. Depending on the country to which you're traveling, a visa may be required as well. Entry requirements vary from one country to another. The U.S. State Department issues travel warnings specific to certain countries, and offers tips and publications relevant to travel abroad generally. Well in advance of your departure, you should also familiarize yourself with international travel health issues, and health recommendations specific to your destination.
