NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF IRELAND-GALWAY
NUI-Galway is located on the banks of the River Corrib; about ten minute walk from the center of Galway City. Student and city life and their activities are, therefore, closely interrelated. The University originally opened for students in October 1849. The old stone quadrangle, at the heart of the campus, is flanked by new buildings, reflecting the steady growth of the University.

GALWAY
With a population of 65,000, Galway is the third largest city in the Republic of Ireland and one of Europe's fastest growing urban centers. It is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with a thriving cultural and commercial community. Because of its dynamic and pioneering role in theatre, arts and culture, Galway has earned the title of "Cultural Capital of Ireland." It is located on the west coast, giving easy access to many tourist sites, and historical and cultural features of the whole island.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM
Not only is this program exceptional for its location, but it is also exceptional for the program design. It gives you the unique opportunity to participate in a UW-L faculty-led program with the expanded opportunity to study on the campus of renowned and historic University. Course offerings vary each year depending on the expertise of the faculty selected to teach. Students will enroll in two classes for a total of six credits.

2013 COURSE OFFERINGS
Students are required to enroll in two (2) courses for a total of six (6) credits.

ARC 250 Cr. 3
Museum Studies ~ Dr. Joe Tiffany
The introductory course provides a history of museums, their goals and methods, administration, curation and exhibit techniques.  Participants will be taking field trips to museums.

CST 365 Cr. 3
Communication in Teams ~ Dr. Jim Putz
In this course, students will study group and team communication theories and processes by observing and participating in teams. As team members, students will apply communication theory to enhance their effectiveness as team members and leaders. Prerequisite: CST 110. Not open for credit to students who have completed or are enrolled in PSY 343 (Group Dynamics) and/or SOC 334 (Sociology of Small Groups).

PSY 304 or PSY 391 Cr. 3
Abnormal Psychology: International Perspectives ~ Dr. Ryan McKelley

This is the traditional Abnormal Psychology course with an international twist. Students will learn clinical descriptions, biopsychosocial influences, and associated treatments of psychological disorders. Special emphasis will be placed on non-U.S. views of disorders and their treatment, and the international version of the diagnostic system used by other countries. We will also explore culture-specific disorders that we don't commonly see in the U.S.  NOTE: This will serve as an alternative to our PSY 304 course in the department and satisfies that requirement. If you have already taken PSY 304, you can take it as the general elective PSY 391: Contemporary Topics in Psychology-Intermediate. Prerequisites: PSY 100 (General Psychology) or 212 (Life-Span Development).
