Emergency Notification
In case of campus emergencies, the University uses multiple communications to notify the campus community, including campus police, email, the University home page and City Watch. City Watch is the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s emergency notification text messaging system. Although only UW-L students, faculty, and staff can register for City Watch, students can sign up parents, other family members, or friends by designating more than one mobile device to their account. Parents are also encouraged to sign up for the Parent email newsletter. Parent messages are sent monthly throughout the academic year, and may be found later archived on the University Parents & Family website.
Safety on Campus
Safety is highly important to you and the University. Please read the UW-L safety tips and information or view the Parent Safety Presentation from Freshmen Registration (Requires Adobe Reader to view).
Crime Prevention
Campus safety is everyone's responsibility. The University makes efforts to educate students about crime prevention, and the University Police and the City of La Crosse Police Department cooperate in patrolling campus and the surrounding area.

Health and Safety Topics
Students and Alcohol
For many students, alcohol is an intriguing part of their college
experience. While you as a parent may be concerned, and
rightfully so, you can help your son or daughter make healthy
decisions. See Smart Choices.
Relationships, Sexuality, and Sexual Activity
Relationships, sexuality, and sexual activity offers
information and resources that may help as you discuss these
issues with your student.
Sexual Assault and Prevention
The Violence
Prevention Office provides information that students can use to
avoid being the victim of sexual assault or the risk of becoming
an assailant. It also has advice for parents if their student
has been assaulted.
