International Student Computer Support Policy
Approved March 9, 2009
Purpose:
To clearly present the computer technology support available to international students studying at University of Wisconsin - La Crosse (UW-L).
Policy:
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides support for the application and other software licensed by UW-L such as antivirus software for student use. ITS also provides trouble shooting assistance for computer problems, however ITS does not service privately owned computers. ITS provides services for students with computers that have properly licensed US-English based and presented operating systems. Non-English or inappropriately licensed operating systems will not be supported. Lists of services provided and services not provided by ITS for students with properly licensed US-English operating systems are at the following website: http://www.uwlax.edu/itssupport/services/personal.htm
Guidelines:
- • All students who wish to have access to UW-L’s ITS services must use a computer that has a properly licensed US-English based operating system (see Consequences of non-compliance, below).
- • UW-L maintains a short list of computers for purchase that meet the requirements for student use in completing the work necessary for academic success. The list of computers that meet the requirements is at the following website: http://www.uwlax.edu/itssupport/services/rechardware.htm.
- UW-L provides access to electronic resources through general computer access laboratories and classrooms.
Consequences of non-compliance:
Limited computer hardware and software support will be available for students with non-licensed or non-English operating systems. Network connectivity and support for issues related to viruses and spyware are likely to be the most difficult. Other applications, if not licensed in English will not be supported.
