B.  Service

Department Service

Beta Alpha Psi, Faculty Advisor. (September 1995 - Present)

Beta Alpha Psi is the national honor organiztion for information professionals.  I have been advisor (or co-advisor) from the formation of the chapter through installation (1998) and up to the present. I have attended perhaps 100 local meetings and a dozen regional or national meetings.

Accounting Career Expo, This is a joint project without a committee structure. (October 1998 - October 2007)

ACE is a joint project of Career Services and the Department of Accountancy.  It is a career fair exclusively for accountancy majors and minors.  The 2007 draft program lists 35 organizations.  ACE immediately precedes Accounting Interview Days.

I have retained responsibilities for internships, ACE and AID after being replaced as chair.

Accounting Interview Days, This is a joint project without a committee structure. (October 1998 - October 2007)

AID is a joint project of Career Services and the department of accountancy.  We work jointly to see that students are prepared for interviews and that there is an appropriate set of organizations at AID to hire them.

I have retained responsibilities for internships, ACE and AID after being replaced as chair.

S&S Committee, Chair. (April 2006 - June 2007)

Seeking to replace faculty members

Advancement, Chair. (July 1, 1993 - June 30, 2007)

The department chair is primarily responsible for building relationships including donations.  During my years as chair scholarships went from about $4,000 to over $54,000 in 2006.  In addition we have started the Bill Cress endowment to provide funds for department operations as well as scholarships.

The major cause of our advancement successes is the success of our students in the marketplace.  Part of the success of these efforts comes from the support of the dean, Pat Stephens, Karla Stanek, ACC faculty members, and the UW-L Foundation.

Department of Accountancy Merit Committee, Chair. (July 1, 1993 - June 30, 2007)

The chair and dean (or associate dean) are the merit committee for the department.

Department of Accountancy PRT Committee, Chair. (July 1, 1993 - June 30, 2007)

Per the bylaws, the department chair is the chair of PRT committee and all subcommittees.

College Service

Interim Associate Dean. (September 2006 - Present)

I share the interim associate dean position with Lise Graham.  This is a paid activity but it certainly distracts from my ability to meet my teaching and research obligations.

Professional Development in ACC 221, I coordinate the session. (September 2000 - February 2007)

The Professional Development session in ACC 221 (a required course in the CBA core) is for all majors in the CBA.  It presents information on the Academic Advising Center, Career Services, international opportunities, and advice for career development while at UW-L.

Dates below are approximate.
