1.
Departmental Bylaws:
a.
All departmental
bylaws should now contain, at minimum, IAS procedures for annual evaluation,
career progression and appeals procedure.

2. Titling at
the Time of Hire:
a. A Position Description should be completed at the
time of hire – this will reflect the expectations with regards to
teaching, professional development and service, along with the appointment %
breakdown.
b. All IAS titles will follow either the Lecturer or the
Clinical Professor series with specific rank determined by the position

c. Prior years of teaching experience should be
negotiated at the time of hire and recorded on the L-1347 FACULTY/INSTRUCTIONAL ACADEMIC STAFF PERSONNEL

NOTE: This information is important in determining eligibility for
career progression.
d.
Once assigned a
title, changes in title should only occur through the career progression process.
3. Individual
Development Plan (IDP):
a. The IDP has 2 parts – the IDP form (discussion
of goals) & the Position Description
b. When?
i. IDP – annual
ii. Position Description – at time of hire and at
any time that the expectations or % appointment change

4. Career
Progression Portfolio:
a. Career Progression Grid can be used to determine
candidateŐs eligibility – both quantitative and qualitative.

c. Contents & Responsible Parties
i. Candidate
1. Digital Measures Report & Narrative w/ support
materials links (convert everything to pdf; check that links are functioning;
forward to department chair via email)
ii. Department Chair
1. Chair uploads the following to Digital Measures (IAS
Report – Departmental) :
a. Letter of support from Promotion Committee &/or
Dept. Chair
b. Departmental Promotion Committee Signature Page (if
applicable)
c. SEI scores for last 6 semesters
d. Merit scores for last 6 semesters (If IAS merit is
not a part of departmental process, this should be addressed in departmentŐs
letter.)
e. Most recent IDP & Position Description (IDP or
department letter should address departmentŐs statement on IAS PD/CA/Schol
f. Chair sends notification of departmentŐs
support/non-support to candidate.
Non-support decisions must include reasons.
iii. Dean
1. Upload simple statement indicating support or
non/support. Non-support
statements must include reasons.
Statements should be relatively consistent in size and content for all
candidates.
2. Dean sends notification of support or non-support
(with reasons) to candidate.
3. Dean uploads all components of CP portfolio to D2L.
5. Workload Policy:
a. Total Workload has two components (Teaching Load
& Additional Workload Equivalency) and shall not exceed 15* contact hours
i. Teaching Load – Full-time instructional academic staff engaged in
undergraduate instruction typically have a teaching load of 12 contact
hours of group instruction per week. Full-time instructional academic
staff engaged in graduate instruction typically have a teaching load of
9 contact hours of group instruction per week.
ii. Additional Workload Equivalency – Composition of additional
workload equivalency (3* contact hours) varies among individual IAS members and
departments. It may include, but is not limited to, considerations
dependent upon class size and course writing content, number and nature of
course preparations required, the nature of instructional patterns (e.g.,
lecture, discussion, laboratory, distance learning, clinical and/or field
activity), the nature of the students (lower division, upper division, or
graduate), supervisory duties (e.g., student teachers, teaching assistants,
undergraduate research, independent study, thesis supervision), the extent of
other assigned responsibilities in non-instructional duties (e.g., program
director, lab preparation and/or coordination), scholarly activities
(professional development), service activities (e.g., committee assignments,
academic advisement, or assistance with student activities and organizations,
public service, community service and professional service) and/or additional
contact hours of classroom teaching.
b. *In those areas where
contact hours are even numbered, Total Workload shall not exceed 16 contact
hours – 12 hours Teaching Load + 4 hours Additional Workload Equivalency
c. What is a Contact Hour? An hour spent in instruction of students (e.g., lecture,
laboratory, discussion, etc.)
