Newspaper Access for UW-L Students
There are no paper copies of the New York Times
for students in the 2006-2007 Academic Year.
If you wish to assign newspaper-related activities please note that two of Murphy Library’s five news databases, provide FREE full text from a variety of national and international news sources:
-
Newspapers (ProQuest)
Includes articles from TheNew York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The Time ( London), and more. -
Newspaper Source (EBSCOhost)
Includes radio and TV transcripts from CBS, FOX, NPR and more.
These databases are freely available to all faculty, staff, and students. (Off campus access requires a user’s UW-L e-mail username and password.)
Help in using these data bases is available at “Database Tips: News.” Students can be directed to tutorials and guides, including how to search a specific publication (i.e,, The New York Times) in Newspapers ProQuest.
Content varies by publication, but the following are typically included:
- Staff-written articles
- Editorials
- Letters to the Editor
- Non-Syndicated Columnists
Typically not included are:
- Classifieds
- Images (photos, cartoons, advertisements)
- Obituaries (Included in the NY Times)
- Stocks
- Sports Scores
