Dear colleagues and students:
I'm delighted to let you know that Dr. Heidi Slettedahl Macpherson has accepted our offer to become UW-L's next Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, effective July 1, 2012. As you may recall, Dr. Macpherson currently serves as Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation at De Montfort University in Leicester, England.
Dr. Macpherson received her BA (Summa Cum Laude) in English and Creative Writing from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. During her degree program she had the opportunity to study abroad for a semester on the British Studies programme at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, and following graduation from St. Cloud State in 1990, she returned to the UK and became a dual national in 2003.
Heidi received her PhD in contemporary North American women’s writing from the University of Newcastle in 1996 and began her academic career at the University of Central Lancashire, where she worked from 1995 to 2007. From 2007 to 2010, she was Dean of Humanities at De Montfort University. She was promoted to the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor Teaching, Learning and Student in 2010, and took up her current role in 2011.
Dr. Macpherson is a member of numerous scholarly societies, and she has published several books and articles. In her spare time, Heidi enjoys hiking, reading, creative writing, and going to the cinema.
