OUR STUDENTS!
Generally we have great students at UW-L.
A few facts:
- We are the second most "selective" UW university after Madison in terms
of ACT and class rank.
- Most UW-L students are female (60%) and psychology is closer to 75%.
- Most come from within 100 miles - often from low population rural areas.
- Most of our students declare the major in their sophomore or junior
year.
- Approximately 30% of our students go to graduate school - the vast
majority to applied Master's programs.
- They tend to be hard working and good-hearted.
What do they like?
- Students like structure and clear expectations
- Knowing deadlines way in advance
- An approachable and accessible instructor
- Enthusiasm
- Knowledge
- Hands -on work - not just "talking head" lectures
- Real life examples
What to they dislike?
- Delays of returns in materials (more than 1 week)
- Lack of feedback about grades - they like a sense early in the semester
as to "how" they are doing
- Feeling brushed off by their faculty - give prompt response to
emails/phone calls to make appointment
