Excellent Resources - Teaching Ideas
1. The old adage that an instructor should find two great texts and assign one and teach from the other is actually fairly useful. Students will be expecting material that extends and compliments the text(s).
2. Most disciplines have a teaching journal associated with them. These journals focus on a variety of teaching techniques or activities associated with heightened student learning (see previous scholarship of learning email that listed sites to visit). Psychology has "Teaching of Psychology" and the entire journal is on-line at http://www.ithaca.edu/beins/top/top.htm
3. Even if you are not teaching an introductory course, don’t overlook the instructor’s guide that comes with the intro survey courses – they tend to be extraordinarily well written and you will find parts of them that correspond to your content course.
4. Many of you are familiar with the instructor’s guides that come with your textbooks (if that is what you use), but don’t neglect the many good ideas imbedded in these auxiliary materials. Also, the websites associated with the big texts offer many “cool” activities to imbed in course assignments both inside and outside the classroom.
5. Ideas from others:
APA's Division 2 has an excellent website full of ideas and sample syllabi: http://www.lemoyne.edu/OTRP/index.html
