SYLLABI

Syllabi are a legal contract with the student. We use them to help appraise what is occurring in a class and students use them in the future to help determine transferability at other universities if needed.

The following information must be included on your syllabus:

• Basic course id info (year, semester, course, location, time, credits).
• Your identifying info (your name, office hours, office, e-mail, phone, etc).
• Full references to text and other materials.
• Course description (from catalog) 
• Course requirements
• Course Calendar/Schedule of events
• Grading procedures and scales
• IF the course is a General Education class - please make sure to indicate it is and highlight appropriate general education objectives.
• The following phrase regarding disabilities:
  "Any student with a documented disability (e.g., physical, learning, psychiatric, vision, or hearing, etc.) who needs to arrange reasonable accommodations must contact the instructor and the Disability Resource Services office (165 Murphy Library) at the beginning of the semester. Students who are currently using the Disability Resource Services office will have a copy of a contract that verifies they are qualified students with disabilities who have documentation on file in the Disability Resource Services office."
• Please include a table like the one shown below with information appropriate to your class.  You may also wish to include a statement such as Psychology is a "writing-in-the-major" program.  We do not specify particular courses as "writing emphasis."  Instead, the program is designed in such a way that students are required to write both informal and formal papers throughout their psychology curriculum.

• A “tentative date” clause. "The above schedule and procedures in this course are subject to change in the event of extenuating circumstances."
• You may want to reference your own cheating policy and the university's - you can reference the Eagle Eye site if you'd like (it includes all of the student-related policies. http://www.uwlax.edu/stuserv/OSL/main2.html
• There is no official UWL policy on saving student work.  We recommend that you add a statement to your syllabus (e.g..  “I save student work for 7 weeks into the new semester and then dispose of it.”
