November 10th, 2010
GMH 207
7:00pm: Meeting starts
7:03pm: Reminder about important dates of meetings for the rest
of the year
7:05pm: Quick Announcements: Psych Club was proud to announce
the new club Historian, Melissa Carstensen. Reminder
about Psych Faire and asked to see if anyone is interesting in
helping out with traffic cop. Talked about the Psych Major/
Minor Pub Crawl that is taking place on Saturday, December 4th,
starting at 9:30p.m. Join the facebook group online for
more information about t-shirts and those who are attending. It
is reminded that this is not a Psi Chi/Psych Club event, but
created by a member. The Psychology Department is happy to
announce that they’re very own Dr. McKelley is participating
in ‘Dancing with the La Crosse Stars’ on Saturday, November
27th, from 7:00-9:30pm. Help support Dr. McKelley by voting
for him; $1=1 vote. Dr. McKelley was there himself to promote it
and we also watched a practice video of him and his
partner. To see this video and for more information Visit
http://www.dancingprofessor.com . Also look at the board outside
of the Psych department office.
7:10pm: Last call for the Psych Club t-shirts. They are $10 each
and you can place the money in an envelope with your
name, shirt size, and $ amount on it. Please talk to a member
after the meeting if you haven’t ordered your shirt yet and
you are interested.
7:13pm: Officer Reorganization Proposal. Current each club has a
separate set of officers, but we do virtually everything
together. Researched clubs at other universities, Proposal
would: 1. Increase efficiency and 2. Still preserve enough
officers
for people to participate. A chart showed what our current
officer organization is, while a second graph showed what the
new organization would look like. This would start next fall. A
vote was taken and majority (everyone) voted that the officer
reorganization would take place.
7:20pm: Psi Chi awards for graduates. Discussion about the
various awards for Psi Chi members who are eligible and
who are graduating this December. If you’d like to wear chords,
medals, etc. for graduation: psichi.org merchandise
graduation. Write up an “order sheet”, attach a check for your
total, and enclose in an envelope. Drop off in the Psi Chi
mailbox in GMH 335 on or before December 1st. If you have any
questions email: psichi@uwlax.edu
7:24pm: Spring Activities. We try to host a grad. school
admissions officer from a nearby university in the spring, last
year:
Argosy University in Chicago. If you have a suggestion of a
school or an area in Psychology that you’re interested in we
asked that you write those ideas down on a note card. Also,
we’re thinking of planning club movie nights this spring with
movies such as Memento, American History X, One Flew over the
Cuckoo's Nest, A Beautiful Mind, Sybil, Eternal Sunshine
of A Spotless Mind, Good Will Hunting, etc. Note cards:
suggestions for grad. schools or general areas (i.e. “counseling
psych.”) and movie suggestions.
7:26pm: Relay for life. Update: For those of you who do not
know, we generated enough interest and now have two teams
registered for Relay 2011! There are still a few spots
available, so if you still want to sign up, you can, but…here’s
the catch:
The team roster is being mailed to ACS this week, and if you are
not on that roster, you will not get a shirt. However, you
are still encouraged to sign up! Just send an e-mail to
mcelligo.ally@uwlax.edu, and I will let you know how you should
proceed! If you know you cannot participate on the team, but
would still like to help us raise money—through fundraisers,
or if you would like to make an individual contribution—please
let Ally know! Current members of the Psych Club/Psi Chi
Relay for Life teams, please come see me after the meeting!
7:30pm: Presentation – Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse.
7:45pm: meeting adjourned
