What NOT To Do:
- Do not touch or attempt to help a person without
introducing yourself first.
- Do not grab a person's arm to assist him/her for guidance.
This will set them off balance and could increase their risk of
falling.
- Do not pet a person's seeing-eye dog. They are
working and should not be interrupted.
- Do not use general terms, such as "Look out" or "Go that
way". Be specific in describing what he/she should watch out
for and when giving directions.

What TO Do:
- Offer assistance if someone asks a question, particularly
if it pertains to reading written information.
- Identify yourself before making physical contact.
Introduce yourself, your role, and others around you.
- Offer your arm for balance if the person needs guidance.
- If a person has a guide dog, walk on the opposite side.
- When walking with a person, describe potential obstacles,
such as large cracks in the walkway, stairs, or doors.
