The Records and Registration

benefits at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Credit for Educational Preparation Acquired While in Service: Veterans will be asked to submit an official transcript or DD 214 of their record to the Admissions Office. In granting credit, the University will follow the recommendation of the American Council on Education. No credit will be granted if such credit would constitute repetition of credit already earned. After initial admission to UW-L, prior military credits are evaluated by the Admissions Office. Typically, 4 credits are awarded for basic training.

All applications for veteran education benefits while attending UW-L are handled by the VA Benefits Coordinator in Room 117, Graff Main Hall.
New Student Certification - Chapter 30 Benefits
(Montgomery GI Bill for Active Duty Personnel and Veterans Since 1985) New students who have been admitted to UW-La Crosse and are eligible for veterans’ benefits may apply for federal benefits in the Records and Registration Office. Certification of registration and academic standing are required by the St. Louis VA Regional Office prior to the initial disbursement of monthly entitlement checks. To expedite the certification process, you need:
1) DD 214
2) VA Form 22-1990, Application for
Education Benefits
3) Kicker contract (if eligible)
4) Enrollment
verification form (required each semester after registration
for classes)
New Student Certification - Chapter 1606 Benefits
(Montgomery GI Bill for Reserve and Guard Members Since 1985) New students who have been admitted to UW-La Crosse and are eligible for veterans’ benefits may apply for federal benefits in the Records and Registration Office. Certification of registration and academic standing are required by the St. Louis VA Regional Office prior to the initial disbursement of monthly entitlement checks. To expedite the certification process:

2) Bring a
signed DD Form 2384-1 NOBE from your Unit to the Veterans

New Student Certification - Chapter 1607 (REAP) Benefits
(Montgomery GI Bill for Reserve and Guard Members Since 1985) New students who have been admitted to UW-La Crosse and are eligible for veterans’ benefits may apply for federal benefits in the Records and Registration Office. Certification of registration and academic standing are required by the St. Louis VA Regional Office prior to the initial disbursement of monthly entitlement checks. To expedite the certification process:
1) DD 214
2) Bring a

New Student Certification - Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation Program
The process for receiving Chapter 31 benefits is initiated with the Case Manager at the Veterans Administration in Eau Claire (715-834-2154). Final certification and completion of an enrollment verification form is handled through the Veterans Benefits Coordinator in the UW-L Records and Registration Office.
New Student Certification - Chapter 33 Post 9/11 Education
Benefits
(at least 90 days active duty after September 11, 2001)
The process for receiving Chapter 33 benefits is initiated with the VBC or through the County Veterans Services Office. Final certification and completion of an enrollment verification form is handled through the Veterans Benefits Coordinator in the UW-L Records and Registration Office. To expedite the certification process, you need:

3) Kicker contract (if eligible)

New Student Certification Chapter 35 – Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program – Spouses and Children
(100% service-related disability or death of veteran)
You may apply by filling out VA Form 22-5490, Application for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance through the Veterans Benefit Coordinator in the UW-L Records and Registration Office in Room 117, Graff Main Hall. Final certification and completion of an enrollment verification form is handled through the Veterans Benefits Coordinator in the Records and Registration Office.
Students Who Have Used Education Benefits Prior to Attending UW-L
(Chapter 30, Chapter 1606, Chapter 1607, Chapter 31 Chapter 33 and Chapter 35)
The student must contact the Veterans Benefits Coordinator in UW-L Records and Registration to fill out and sign VA Form 22-1995, Change of Place of Program or Training, and an enrollment verification form.

Please Note: Per VA directive, a Winter Intersession (formerly known as J-Term) course, Summer Session courses and courses that do not meet for the full semester will only reduce benefit eligibility during those weeks that the course(s) meet.
