What the Deans say...

In the summer of 2003, as part of a Provost/Vice Chancellor appointed task force, the Deans of the Colleges were asked to identify programs, and from there, characteristics that were truly distinctive at UW-La Crosse. One of the two characteristics mentioned was UW-L is a " student centered community." They went on to say "students are welcomed to campus with an outstanding Residence Life program.  Residence halls are small and "family styled", there are no high rise complexes. Non-academic programs for students are all encompassing. The programs in student activities, services to students, residence life and athletics are all student centered and many student driven."

"Something that has truly caught my attention at UW-L is relationships among students, professional staff and central staff. This is something I have not experienced at another university. Being on professional staff, it is amazing how easy conversation can be developed with central staff getting their feedback at any time you need it. Another important part of my enjoyment at UW-L are students, who keep me on my toes and help me in different situations when necessary. At times, they are my eyes for me in the building, but the care that they show towards us and being part of a team at UW-L is fabulous. Our department and students are unique in special ways, where everything and everyone come together! Our students are heard and their feedback is and will be carried out when decisions are to be made! It is an amazing and wonderful experience to be working with Office of Residence Life because we are here to build our students' experience and future!"

"I feel UW - La Crosse has a strong culture of students that buy into the positive potential of Residence Life. The bar is set high to be a student staff member at UW-L and that lends itself to having quality leadership, creative programming, and engaging conversations that I haven't experienced at the two other institutions where I have been. I also believe the Professional Staff experience here is an awesome network of support and collaboration leading to meaningful experiences that ultimately make you smile before your head hits the pillow each night because you realize you are a part of something special.
