Admission Policies
- The number of students admitted to the major is dependent on the number of clinical internship sites and their student capacity.
- Affiliation agreements with clinical sites require that the sites commit to complete the training of students accepted into the major and are renewed each year by Feb. 15 prior to student selection.
- Admission to the major is on a competitive basis. Students are advised to apply for admission to the professional program early in the spring semester of their sophomore year after having taken or registered for the pre-professional requirements. It is however appropriate to apply as a junior.
- Applicants are advised to have taken or registered for their general education requirements met by the time of application as well. All general education requirements would need to be fulfilled prior to starting the program classes in the fall.
- Applicants are required to have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale and a grade of "C" or better in all required courses.
- Applicants are required to successfully complete 40 hours of observation in a radiation therapy department. A list of possible observation sites may be obtained from the program director. Students are encouraged to plan to visit during summer, semester and spring break times. Some sites may require that the student have had a set of immunizations prior to the visit to comply with hospital policy. It may be beneficial to visit more than one site.
- Applicants are considered without regard to sex, race, color, creed, religion, national origin, disability, ancestry, age, sexual orientation, pregnancy, marital or parental status.
- Applications must be submitted in full by the
deadline published. Including:
- Completed application
- A personal written statement regarding reason for entering the field. See admissions page for directions on writing the personal statement.
- Completed clinical observation report form(s)
- Transcripts from college(s) and technical schools attended (directly from school). For UW-L students, the most current copy of your SNAP is sufficient.
- Three reference forms (directly from reference); two should be from professors, one can be personal reference; such a former employer, principal, guidance counselor, etc.
- Clinical observation evaluation form (directly from clinical site)
- Applications are to be submitted to:

Re-application to the program:
If a student is not
accepted into the radiation therapy program, the student may opt to
reapply to the program the following year.
The following procedure must be followed for re-application:
- The student must submit an entirely new
application.
- The student must repeat clinical hours of
observation. However the
student is allowed to choose where the hours are spent.
If the student wishes to repeat the hours at the same
location as the previous year that is accepted, as is going to a
different site.
- Students also need to resubmit letters of
reference.
- The student must meet with advisor either
via email or in person to discuss re-application.
- Students are encouraged to pursue a
different major after two applications to the program, and therefore
should not apply more than twice to the program.
