What are the Advantages of Joining a Fraternity?
What is the Purpose of a Fraternity?
A fraternity strives to make its members better men. How each chapter reaches this aspiration is different, but two similarities shared by every social fraternity - ritual and brotherhood. Brotherhood is a major aspect of every good fraternity. Like human beings, a social fraternity is, as the name implies, a social thing. As we seek to foster close relationships with those whom we share common experiences and goals. These common goals are exemplified in each fraternity by it's Ritual. The Ritual of a fraternity is a set of ideals that bring brothers of the organization together with a similar sense of purpose. While most Rituals are secret, the purpose of a fraternity is not. Many have common themes such as service, compassion, and scholarship. The ideals of Sigma Alpha Epsilon's are embodied in our creed, The True Gentleman.
What Would I do in a Fraternity? :
Network - Connect to the men in your chapter. Connect to Greek men and women throughout campus. Connect to Sigma Alpha Epsilon's more than 185,000 living alumni. Connect to over 500,000 other collegiate, Greek men from more than 800 campuses.
Get Involved - Fraternity members are involved on and off campus. Sigma Alpha Epsilon WIL-C has a number of leadership positions available to get members involved within the chapter and with other organizations on campus; organizations in the community, such as the Children's Miracle Network; as well as with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity as a whole.
Serve Your Community - In its short history, SAE WIL-C has clocked hundreds of community service hours and raised thousands of dollars for charity. WIL-C has participated in Operation River Watch, the Polar Plunge, Relay for Life, Ghoulees in the Coulees for the Norskedalen Nature & Heritage Center, as well as several others. SAE WIL-C also hosts its own events to raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network each semester - most notably the Music 4 Miracles concert held each spring.
Build Your Resume - Fraternity members are active on campus and in the community. Show employers and graduate schools that you had some worth-while experience in college. Remember, all but 8 Presidents of the United States have been fraternity members!
Brotherhood - An important aspect of the fraternity is creating an environment to nurture the building of close and lasting friendships. It is not uncommon to hear a fraternity man claim that his best friends are his fraternity brothers. There are many ways to network, get involved, serve your community, and build your resume but these things are undeniably more enjoyable when done with some of your best friends.
