BULLETIN: Funding opportunities available for APE Graduate Students
Students pursuing study in adapted physical education (APE) have options to complete either a graduate degree program or a sequence of courses leading to Wisconsin APE teaching certification.
The first option is the Master of Science degree in Physical Education Teaching - Adapted Physical Education Teaching Emphasis (35 credits). This program prepares teachers to provide direct service instruction to students who receive special education and to perform consultation, leadership and supervision roles in APE for school districts or other agencies. Students completing this program will be eligible to receive certification as an APE specialist in the states of Wisconsin (#860) and Minnesota (License #8700.5502), as well as many other states (via reciprocity agreement).

The second option leads to Graduate Certification in Adapted Physical Education Teaching (18 credits).
UW-L recruits well qualified teachers to the field of Adapted Physical Education. Several currently employed physical education teachers from school districts participate in our Certification-only option. This approximately 18 graduate credit-hour course of study can be completed in 2-3 summers. Upon completion of this option, students are eligible for the Wisconsin add-on certification in APE (#860) and Minnesota (License #8700.5502).
