Application to take Comprehensive Exam
Qualifications to Apply
Students may take the comprehensive exam during their final semester of enrollment in academic course work, however it is recommended that they complete the research and core areas of their degree prior to sitting for the comprehensive exam*. Questions regarding readiness for the exam should be directed to your graduate program director or advisor.
*ESS-Sport Administration majors must successfully pass the comprehensive exam prior to entering the required internship.
When to Apply
ESS-Physical Education Teaching
September 30th - for those planning to take the exam in the spring
semester
February 28th - for those planning to take the exam in the summer
session
June 30th - for those planning to take the exam in the fall
semester
These cut-off dates are strictly followed with late applications being processed for the next exam cycle. If you have concerns about the timeliness of your application and degree completion speak with your graduate program director or advisor.
ESS-Human Performance and ESS-Sport Administration
Applications for the comprehensive exam are welcomed at anytime but please keep in mind that comp exams are usually scheduled in the months of April-May, June-July, and November-December. The faculty need time to develop exams for each individual student based on when they took their class and the instructors who taught them.
All ESS Majors
Students are encouraged to discuss their plans for taking the comprehensive exam and intended graduation date with their program director or faculty advisor in a timely manner.
