FRESHMAN-SOPHOMORE YEARS

General Education Requirements (48 credits minimum).  Courses must be selected from a list applicable to Teaching Certification programs - see online Undergraduate Catalog or SNAP report.

Requirements for Admission to Physical Education Teacher Education:

  • Completion of 30 earned college credits,
  • passing scores for PPST,
  • 2.75 combined cumulative GPA, GPA on BIO 103/105 or MIC 100, HPR 105, ESS 112, ESS 117, and ESS 225 (Foundational Classes),
  • Resume,
  • Teaching Leadership Reflection Paper,
  • Interview with Faculty.

NOTE: Students enrolled in Exercise and Sport Science majors must earn a grade of ‘C’ or better in all required ESS courses listed in the prescribed program.

TEACHER EDUCATION ADMISSION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Meeting minimum application requirements does not guarantee admission to the Teacher Education Program.
  • NOTE: Students are advised to complete the Pre-Professional Skills Test before the end of their freshman year. Minimum passing scores are: RDG 175; MTH 173; and WRT 174.
  • Admission to Student Teaching requires a 2.75 grade point average in the cumulative, major/minor and education sequence. All clinical/field experiences and course work must be completed prior to Student Teaching.
  • Prior to entering student teaching students must:
    • Provide official, passing scores for the PRAXIS II Subject Assessment,
    • Have earned minimum 2.75 grade point averages in the cumulative and in all areas of licensure.
